7 home remedies to delay periods
Those who get periods may frequently wish they could postpone them. Periods can cause cramps, mood changes, breast tenderness, bloating, and other PMS symptoms, in addition to monthly blood discharge. As a result, one may feel compelled to postpone their period, especially if they are traveling or have an important event to attend. There are numerous tips, ranging from working out to drinking vinegar water, for naturally postponing periods. Here are a few easy ways to delay periods.
Home remedies for delaying one’s period might or might not be successful. Some people might have success with it, while others might not. Or, in most cases, the remedy might work the first time but not the second. There is not enough scientific evidence to support the idea that natural remedies can delay one’s menstrual cycle. However, these can reduce symptoms and make periods more bearable.
Some of the easy ways to delay periods are as follows:
- Drinking lime juice for delaying period
Since lime juice is acidic and potent in vitamin C, it may reduce bleeding and delay the start of one’s period. Many believe that adding a few drops of lemon juice to hot water and drinking it every day for at least a week before one’s period will cause it to be delayed.
- Massaging the abdomen with oils
It is believed that massaging one’s abdomen with oil can help relieve menstrual cramps. It is also believed that uterine massages can delay periods. It does not, however, ensure that one’s periods will be delayed; this goes for other remedies as well. One can, however, give it a shot.
- Adding gelatin to lukewarm water
Another remedy that might help one delay their menstrual cycle is gelatin. It has been suggested that consuming gelatin mixed in lukewarm water might postpone the start of one’s period by up to a few hours. One must keep in mind that having too much gelatin might lead to bloating and digestive issues and necessarily exacerbate existing period symptoms.
- Exercising
Doing high-intensity exercises can cause the brain to experience stress, which may aid in delaying periods. However, those who engage in intensive exercise are also more likely to experience amenorrhea, the loss of a normal menstrual cycle, and other hormonal issues. This is why one must be cautious and do any form of exercise with caution.
- Eating lentils
It is believed that eating fried gram lentils might delay periods. That said, there is no scientific proof suggesting that lentils help with delayed periods. One should be aware, however, that overeating lentils or other pulses may cause gastrointestinal troubles and flatulence. This, again, can exacerbate period symptoms.
- Drinking apple cider vinegar
One’s periods can be naturally delayed by drinking apple cider vinegar. Try this home cure by mixing three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with water at least a week before one’s period. Taking a few teaspoonfuls of apple cider vinegar with some water also has several other health benefits. - Consuming fewer spicy foods
Overeating spicy and hot meals can cause one’s period to come a day or two early. This is because of increased estrogen levels. If one wants to delay their period, they must avoid eating spicy meals a few days before it.
